An evening of funky, soulful, eclectic, rockin’ music at The Derby, Hollywood
ACME (Association of City Musicians) spread a whole lotta love and good vibrations Thursday night, opening with a simple and clear acoustic guitar set by Marc Cittadino, with Egg & Vinny joining on percussion for the last song for extra funk & groove! Eric Ethan was up next, transfixing the audience with the passionate intensity of his vocals and driving guitar – when joined by ACME at the end of his set, they rocked the room. Amy Clarke struck a new chord for the evening, singing soaring, soulful vocals over lush, layered synth pop/rock soundscapes while mixing effects on her Yamaha S90 keyboard. Eggman & the Starkillers further delighted with their entertaining, interactive set complete with dance numbers and the exploration of waking dreams. Cinderella Motel burst onto the stage with accordion and attitude, delivering frantic fairy-tales with style and killer attire. Could it get any better? YES. For then Moonchild brewed up lovely tunes featuring Tracy Lorin‘s haunting, powerful vocals layered over piano, guitar and driving rhythms. Luca Spanio Band brought more fire to the stage with “Queen” rock charisma and energy – WOW! THEN, the giddy upbeat groove of MOJOW & THE VIBRATION ARMY dazzled the crowd with infectious beatbox/spoken word/ rapping/dancing/guitar/keyboard charisma – the mojo of this delightful duo was the perfect high for the evening. Tammy Tomahawk and her accordion finished the show with a bang. Until ACME performs again…
